Bridges

While dental implants are our preferred method of replacing missing teeth, sometimes a fixed bridge is a better choice. Bridges are very strong, and look and feel great. A fixed dental bridge is a restoration that replaces or spans the space where one or more teeth are missing. It is permanently cemented to the tooth on either side of the missing tooth and those teeth act as support for your replacement tooth. The teeth adjacent to the missing tooth are shaped for crowns so they can anchor to the artificial tooth. A bridge does not come in and out of your mouth. They look and feel very similar to your own natural teeth.

Why Replace Missing Teeth?

A gap left by a missing tooth is an invitation for trouble. Without a substitute tooth, the surrounding teeth will start to shift their position into the empty space. This will in turn affect your bite, open the door to gum disease, and TMJ (temporomandibular joint) problems.

Reasons to do a Dental Bridge

  • If your medical condition prevents you from doing dental implants
  • If you do not have sufficient bone to place a dental implant
  • If the neighboring teeth also need dental work, you can fix multiple problems with one solution
