Why Dr. Hudson Loves the Waterpik

When patients ask us for one simple upgrade to improve their home dental routine, the Waterpik is often near the top of our list.

While brushing is essential, your toothbrush simply cannot reach every area between your teeth and below the gumlines. That's where a water flosser can make a huge difference. A Waterpik uses a steady stream of pulsating water to help remove food particles, bacteria, and plaque from places that traditional brushing misses.

At our office, we frequently recommend Waterpik products because they are effective, easy to use, and especially helpful for patients with braces, implants, crowns, bridges, or sensitive gums.

1. It Makes Flossing Easier

Let's be honest - many people struggle to floss consistently.

Traditional floss works well, but it can be time-consuming, uncomfortable, or difficult for patients with limited dexterity. Water flossers are often easier to use and more comfortable, which means patients are much more likely to stick with the habit long-term.

And consistency is what really matters.

If using a Waterpik helps someone clean between their teeth every day instead of skipping flossing altogether, I'll take that as a win!

2. Great for Braces, Implants, and Dental Work

One of the biggest reasons we recommend Waterpiks is how helpful they are around dental work.

Patients with braces know how frustrating it can be to floss around wires and brackets. The same goes for patients with crowns, bridges, or veneers. Water flossers can help flush out debris in areas that are difficult to reach with regular floss alone.

For many dental implant patients and All on Four patients, adding a Waterpik to their daily routine helps keep the gums healthier and makes cleaning around restorations much easier. Dental implants are unique when compared to natural teeth, and can often have wider pockets and spaces that can be harder for floss to clean out fully. The Waterpik is hands down the most effective at plaque removal in these situations.

Anyone that has an All on Four restoration knows how difficult it can be to floss underneath. Waterpiks really make cleaning these a breeze, especially when they purchase the additional implant denture tip (linked here)!
