How long does it take to get dental implants?

Implants help replace missing teeth and give patients that beautiful white smile they have always wanted. Implants are one of the most popular dental restoration procedures done today. At East Peoria Dental, we offer our patients a few different dental implant procedures, so they can choose the best one that fits their needs.

Traditional Dental Implants:

Traditional dental implants take multiple appointments, and are used for patients that have cracked, missing, or broken teeth. Implants typically have two steps in the process. The first step is to place the implant in the jawbone. After this is complete there is a healing process that must take place so the implant has time to fuse to the jawbone.

Part of our evaluation is to determine if each patient has enough bone in the jaw present to support the implants. If needed, bone grafting can be done to give patients the additional support needed. Bone grafting is an additional step that is done if required.

The healing process with dental implants takes a few months, and this varies per patient. Once the healing process is complete, the patient returns to our office. An abutment or connector is used, and is placed on top of the implant. A crown that is custom made to match the shape, color, and size of your tooth is affixed securely to the implant. Temporary crowns may be used until the permanent crown is ready to be installed.

Implants are a permanent and reliable tooth restoration solution for patients. They are built to last upwards of 25 years, or a lifetime if cared for properly. Good oral hygiene is recommended with regular dental visits to our office to keep your implants looking and feeling great. On average implants take anywhere between four to six months to fully heal.

Teeth in a Day:

Teeth in a Day is another option offered at East Peoria Dental. Teeth in a Day are dental implants that can be completed in one appointment. Traditionally dental implants take multiple appointments, but this option can give patients a bright white smile in one day. The lab equipment is located in our office, and our skilled doctors can place the implant while you are comfortably sedated and relaxed.

This option involves four implants that are placed in the top or bottom of your mouth. With Teeth in a Day, implants are not needed for each tooth. Temporary crowns are used until the permanent crowns are installed. This option is growing in popularity and is a great choice for patients that want a quicker less invasive process.
